Our Whales Tales Roast features the famous Maui Mokka bean. It's an Arabica varietal originally from Ethiopia, via Kona to Maui. The distance it traveled to get to our West Maui Mountains is somewhat miraculous-- not dissimilar to the months of travel that whales make on an annual basis to give birth and train their young in the warm, shallow Maui waters.
The bean is hard to farm and it produces a very small-sized bean that many mistake for a peaberry. Due to its small size and yield, the Mokka bean is highly prized on Maui. The taste is as delicate as the bean-- soft chocolate and caramel notes, and low acidity.
The Whales Tales is roasted to a city-medium finish. It's our special occasion and favorite dessert coffee at the Cafe, and we hope you'll enjoy it as much as we do.
Our coffee bags are recyclable, and lined with foil with a one-way degassing valve to keep the beans fresh during shipment. Each bag also has resealable tabs to maximize freshness until it's time to order more.
